Digital Book Cover

For this part of the assignment I actually used a children's book that I wrote and self-published. The book only comes in print and is illustrated with the goal of obtaining the attention of young readers. I thought it would be interesting to transform the children's book into a modern, digital book cover that could easily belong on an adult fiction bookshelf. The book is titled, "Wendy Mae Needs a Windy Day," and is about a little girl who receives a kite but there is not any wind. Wendy sets on a quest to find the wind and after a couple of attempts and failures, she eventually gets her kite to fly. With this digital cover the story is reimagined with crisp photography and bold minimalism. The image of a young woman running with a kite captures motion, freedom, and longing all at once. I feel that this design is much more mature and changes what was once a playful picture book into a piece that resonates with adult emotion and introspection. The program I used for this design was Adobe Photoshop. I was to able to find stock images of a girl running with a kite as the main image. I then utilized an element that had wind like features to place the text. The text is classic yet assertive.

Logo

For the logo portion of this assignment, I created a light and whimsical logo for an author to use for their social media account. This is a logo that could be used for a professional Instagram, Facebook, or other social media profile. It could be created into stickers, put onto bookmarks, or placed on mailing material, and more. For the sake of simplicity, I used my name in this logo. The image is that of an open book with a kite floating up out of the book and some lightly sprinkled confetti pouring out. The open book symbolizes that of learning and imagination taking flight. The kite coming out of the book represents an ode to my first published children's book that involves a kite. I used Canva to create this design by adding various media together. I felt these two images blended well given they both had a pastel color palette that created playful warmth. The clean typography with the name in a soft blue serif font adds polish and credibility.
